In 2021 Gemma tried to move to Wales with her son without first discussing it with her son's father. This caused the father to open a custody case.  

Gemma sold her house in Audenshaw and bought a house in Wales with her boyfriend but the custody case stopped her from moving to Wales, effectively making her homeless.  the court allowed Gemma and our grandson to move into our house whilst the case was brought to a conclusion, Gemma and our grandson were with us for around  12 months. The custody case cost us around £25,000.00 in legal fees. We paid this for Gemma without hesitation. 

Cafcass complied a report that stated Gemmas sons father should have custody. this was a severe blow, In 95% of cases, the Cafcass officers report is followed by the court. it was highly likely the court would agree with Cafcass and Gemma would lose custody of her son, this would have been devastating  for Gemma.

Due to our barrister, Gemma won the case, which was very unusual for the judge to go against Cafcas. In a nutshell, due to us paying for a barrister, Gemma won the case and I believe it saved Gemma’s life. 

I believe we saved Gemma’s life when she was fighting the custody battle for her son. We allowed both of them to stay at our house for 12 months. Gemma was in a mess because she had sold her house in order to move to Drury but she was not allowed to live in Drury with her son.

Our barrister put across a great case and unbelievably Gemma won custody and moved to Drury with her son.  I can’t even imagine what would have become of Gemma had she lost the case. We are sure she would have killed herself. 

This period of time, we all suffered under the stress of it all. It was a horrible time.
